Academics

Saint Michael Academy exists to form saints and scholars for the greater glory of God.

Our vision is to create an exceptional culture of learning in pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness. Through knowing, loving, and serving God, students and staff will realize their unique dignity and become heroic disciples of Jesus Christ.

Preschool

Students in PreK-3 begin their educational journey in a joyful, faith-filled environment rooted in the Catholic tradition. Our youngest learners engage in play-based activities that spark imagination and inspire a love of discovery. Learning centers integrated throughout the day support social development, strengthen fine and gross motor skills, and cultivate a lifelong passion for learning that prepares children for the years ahead.

Through dramatic play, early handwriting, home economics, math, and reading experiences, children learn to express themselves, collaborate with others, and explore the world with joy and wonder. Every moment in our PreK-3 program is designed to nurture curiosity, faith, and character while building confidence and a strong foundation in Catholic values. Families may choose between three-day or five-day per week options, providing flexibility to best meet their child’s needs.

Students in PreK-4 experience hands-on learning through play to build a strong foundation in math, handwriting, science, and religion. In math, students explore concepts such as sorting, patterns, shapes, and early addition and subtraction through fun, engaging activities. Handwriting skills grow with the Handwriting Without Tears program, while story time and teacher-led reading develop early literacy. Science comes alive through investigation and observation of nature.

Our religion lessons, inspired by the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, focus on age-appropriate faith formation and virtues. Students enjoy weekly Renaissance classes, including Visual Art, General Music, Physical Education, Spanish, and Library time, along with play-based centers that encourage dramatic play, math, reading, handwriting, and life skills. PreK-4 is a five-day-per-week program.

Elementary

Students in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade engage in structured, hands-on lessons that emphasize discussion, creativity, and mastery of core skills. Classrooms are intentionally pen-to-paper learning environments—technology is limited to STEM classes so that students can focus on handwriting, reading, and authentic engagement with teachers and peers.

The K–2 curriculum develops confident readers, writers, and problem solvers through sequential, integrated instruction. In Language Arts, students strengthen phonics, reading fluency, and writing skills while reading classic literature that inspires imagination and virtue. Cursive handwriting is introduced and practiced to build fine motor skills, focus, and clear written communication. In Mathematics, students progress from number sense and early operations to multiplication, fractions, and geometry, with lessons designed to promote logical thinking and confidence in problem solving. Science instruction encourages exploration and discovery through hands-on experiments in topics such as weather, motion, plants, and matter. Beginning in first grade, Social Studies uses The Story of the World series to bring history to life, connecting ancient civilizations and cultures to today’s global community.

Faith is central to life at St. Michael Academy. Religion instruction uses Word of Life and Virtues in Practice, helping students grow in their understanding of God’s love and their call to holiness. Kindergarteners learn about God’s creation and His love for each person; first and second graders study salvation history and prepare for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Students attend a whole-school Mass once per week, fostering reverence, gratitude, and a shared faith experience.

In addition to core academics, students participate in a rich rotation of Renaissance classes each week. Elementary students attend Visual Art (twice a week), General Music (twice a week), Physical Education (twice a week), Spanish (twice a week), STEM (once a week), and Library (once a week).

Our Catholic elementary education cultivates curiosity, discipline, and virtue in every student. Through purposeful instruction, faith formation, and a commitment to hands-on learning, students leave the K–2 program as confident readers, capable thinkers, and compassionate disciples—ready to continue their journey of wisdom, faith, and service.

Intermediate & Middle School

Students in Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade engage in a well-rounded program that emphasizes both academic excellence and spiritual growth. Each day, students study math, English Language Arts and Reading, science, social studies, and religion, with Catholic teaching and virtue formation integrated throughout.

Math develops problem-solving and fluency through hands-on activities, while English Language Arts emphasizes writing, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension, enhanced by classic and contemporary literature. Science is inquiry-based, exploring topics such as energy, living systems, rocks and landforms, and Earth-Sun relationships. Social studies classes examine American history, regional studies, and the contributions of individuals and communities.

Students’ learning is further enriched through Renaissance classes. Physical education, Visual Art, General Music, Spanish, library, and Discovery Lab—featuring coding and robotics—develop a range of skills and interests. Starting in fourth grade, students choose a fine arts program, including visual art, band, or orchestra, which they attend four days a week to explore creativity and build artistic proficiency.

This combination of rigorous academics, co-curricular enrichment, and faith formation equips students to think critically, express themselves creatively, and grow in character and confidence. At St. Michael Academy, our goal is to prepare students to thrive academically and personally, grounded in knowledge, faith, and a disciplined approach to learning.

Middle School students continue to build on the strong foundation of the elementary years while developing independence and critical thinking. Core subjects—math, English Language Arts and Reading, science, social studies, and religion—challenge students to analyze, discuss, and apply concepts in real-world contexts.

Mathematics includes advanced topics such as geometry, statistics, and data analysis. English Language Arts emphasizes writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literary analysis, while social studies explores world civilizations and cultures. Science engages students in hands-on investigation of life, earth, and human systems. Faith formation remains central to the middle school experience. Students study Scripture, Church teaching, and virtue, learning to connect the truths of faith to their daily lives. Lessons emphasize personal responsibility, moral discernment, and an understanding of what it means to live as disciples of Christ in the modern world.

Beyond the classroom, students participate in co-curricular experiences that promote balance, creativity, and collaboration. Physical education, STEM, and Spanish expand students’ intellectual and practical skills, while fine arts offerings—visual art, band, choir, and dance—nurture expression and appreciation for beauty and culture.

Through this comprehensive program, St. Michael Academy’s Middle School fosters intellectual maturity, spiritual depth, and a strong sense of community. Students leave these years prepared to meet academic challenges with confidence and to live lives rooted in faith, service, and integrity.

Renaissance Classes

At St. Michael Academy, our Renaissance Program enriches the academic experience by engaging the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. Through a variety of co-curricular classes, students discover new interests, develop creative talents, and build essential life skills that complement their core academic studies.

Core Renaissance classes include Physical Education, STEM, Visual Art, General Music, Spanish, and Library. These courses provide students with opportunities to grow physically, think creatively, and explore the connections between technology, culture, and expression. Beginning in Fourth Grade, students also participate in Elective Renaissance classes, selecting from visual art, band, choir, or dance. Students attend their chosen elective four times per week, allowing them to refine their skills, express creativity, and experience the joy of disciplined practice and performance.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is offered to all Preschool students and Second Graders for one hour per week, giving students time for prayer, reflection, and a deeper encounter with God’s presence.

Through the Renaissance Program, St. Michael Academy is dedicated to educating the whole child—nurturing intellectual curiosity, physical well-being, creative expression, and spiritual growth in every student.
